About The Show

Grooveline is a weekly soul, jazz funk and soulful house radio show which airs on three radio stations across the weekend. You can expect to hear classic and modern soulful music from the early 70s through to the latest releases and upcoming promos. Each month we feature an”Album of the Month”, play a soulful house white label due to be released, and focus on one band or artist for the Grooveline Threeplay.

History

Grooveline started life in 1996, broadcasting from 13-year-old Stephen Howie’s house in Saltcoats, North Ayrshire on 49 MHz from an adapted walkie-talkie!

In April 1998, the show started on Hospital Broadcasting Service Ayrshire (HBSA), where it continued for 3 and a half years. By mid-2001, the show took up 12 hours of the station every Sunday.

In 2001 and 2002 the show appeared in England, launching on GK Radio in Staffordshire. Grooveline also appeared on Kic FM in Walsall and Wolverhampton throughout 2003.

After a break of a year so, in September 2004 Grooveline launched on its current home of Blast 1386 in Reading, where the show has become popular with listeners within the town, and round the world – with listeners in countries like Brazil, Russia, Thailand, Japan, Saudi Arabia and…Scotland!

Also, since 2004 the show has appeared on Armada FM in Plymouth, Wyke FM in Hull and Island 88.6 FM across Zakynthos, Greece. In 2013, the show started airing on Vienna International Radio, and 2014 saw the launch of the soulful house strand “The Grooveline Sessions”, with monthly mixes on demand and occasional live shows on London’s Reaction Radio.

Guests on the show have included Frank McComb, legendary DJ/producer John Morales and Bluey from Incognito.
